Here you'll find the design of a tricopter drone I drew myself in February 2024 with an equilateral positioning of gear for portance (like what you can see in the video). Depending on the design and the payload, the back gear size might change. Also, it was designed with co-axial propellers for each helix to ensure maximal mobility.
Furthermore, the design is made to ensure a soft drone landing for its propellers are inside its pads. At the right side, you can see an image showing the co-axial gear concept. Below again are my design boards.
Here is the concept of a co-axial propeller.
Here is the whole drawing set. As you can see, the drone lands as an elongated tripod, with two possible designs :
First image bottom (1) : the propeller is inside the landing pad with both air intake and air exhaust just below it. The full bottom of the pad has a recycled tyre covering for soft landing. This is my favorite solution. With this pad design, the whole body could be put aground too.
Second image at the middle top (2) : the recycled tyre coating is positioned at the very end of the landing gear designed as an arc and the full drone lands on three tiny points.
Why would you use this solution ?
Integrated propellers inside the landing pads is useful both :
For soft landing, as other designs of drones may paddle to land.
To minimize materials used within the building process.
