⭐ — Personal review: The Neutralization Triangle

➠ Simplified

The triangle of neutralization shows a tri-relation between :

1. The shooter (or the actor behind the intention of destruction).

2. The weapon (or the tool of the intention of destruction, for example : a charged riffle, a rigged missile, a knife in hand, an AI with no human in the loop).

3. The target (or the target of the intention of destruction).

What is an intention of destruction ? A determined will to produce arm to a person, a group, an asset (financial or material), a place or a idea (freeness) or ideology (Western, Eastern ; Left, Right ; Extremism, Liberalism) for personal, professional, group, financial, material or ideological interests.

➠ Particularities

This tri-relation express ways to neutralize the intention of destruction by :

1. Acting on the shooter (neutralization)

2. Acting on the weapon (incapacitate)

3. Acting on the target (protection)

This can be done through the triangle of neutralization's interior — expressing all means to protect yourself, oneself or something from the intention of destruction, or the following couples :

1.  To protect yourself from the shooter : your capacities of anticipation (thus being immaterial : your cognitives functions, psychology, prospective, espionage).

2. To protect yourself from the weapon : your capacities of reaction (thus being material and related to your training ; how you use your shield against a sword).

3. To protect the target from the intention of destruction : your capacities to protect and / or defend.

Between this three interior couples, the crossed domain fields are expressed (see the picture), when you manage to reach them all, you ensure the total neutralization of the intention of destruction (against the target, from the shooter with a weapon).

Note : the chosen words inside each category (in French) may have to be re-evaluated.

The neutralization can be also done through the triangle of neutralization's exterior — expressing the external relation between the three spikes of the triangle, naming :

1. Between the shooter and the weapon : the technical knowledge of the shooter about the weapon (ballistic, handling, maintaining, etc.).

2. Between the weapon and the target : the environment between the shooter and the target (it can be cyber, urban, rainy or clouded, sea-sea, ground-air, etc.).

3. Between the target and the shooter : the perception of the target by the shooter (applicable to different domains of conflicts with a clear or a deformed vision of the whole situation).

➠ Moreover

1. Rightfully acting on the technical knowledge of the shooter about the weapon can act both on the shooter and the weapon, for example a corrupted, pirated and falsified ballistic system does not allow the shooter to use the weapon correctly. 

2. Rightfully acting the environment between the shooter and the target can act both on the shooter and the target, for example, a destroyed road do not allow a convoy to attain a place.

3. Rightfully acting the perception of the target by the shooter can act both on the target and the shooter, for example, a blinded shooter can not kill the target (thus protecting it punctually).

➠ Lastly

1. Acting on the shooter's peak (n°1) create effects both on its perception and technical knowledge. For example, a shooter forced to hide produce effects on its perception and his ability to use its technical knowledge.

2. Acting on the weapon's peak (n°2) create effects both on the technical knowledge and the environment of the intention of destruction. For example, destroying a cruse does modify the battle environment (speaking of tactics and strategy) but also the technical environment (communications, positioning, etc.).

3. Acting the target's peak (n°3) creates effects both on the environment and the perception of the intention of destruction. For example, by making the target invisible from the shooter to protect it, you alter the perception of the shooter (would it be cyber or physical), and its environment : where is it now ?

➠ Note

If this can be applied to fight against criminality, conventional conflicts, or even international relations and diplomacy*, this can also be applied to strategy, or even non conventional fields such as hybrid warfare — that I tend to define through the following categories :

• Cyber || Informational → Psychological (manipulative, associative, coring).

• Cognitive (biochemical ; drugs — or electromagnetic and electro-acoustic ; or same through bio-cyber) — direct effects on the cognition.

• Legal (coercion by Law, for example : the GDPR) || Normative (creating norms before market penetration, see here).

*  See the environment's arc to protect the target from the weapon through the junction between protection (defense) and material reaction by using Law, Diplomacy or Rights (or a positioning in the Legal domain, for example the GDPR).
