🕓 — About Doomsday Clock : a new paradigm
From mid 2024
âž Pre-work
Every year, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists determines how much metaphorical time we have to avert a critical human catastrophe. The Doomsday Clock is a design that warns the public about how close we are to destroying our world with dangerous technologies of our own making. It is a metaphor, a reminder of the perils we must address if we are to survive on the planet — such as micro-platisc pollution, climate change or nuclear or bacterial war. Over the past 75 years since 1947, the hands of the clock have moved according to whether steps were taken to address threats that could end human civilization on Earth, including climate change and nuclear war.
Doomsday Clock remains at a minute and a half to midnight in 2024—closest ever to apocalypse. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists announced in Jan. 23 that the hands of the Doomsday Clock would remain at 90 seconds to midnight. You can see its value through time since 1947 here
âž Idea
Depending on the world direction evolution, if the Doomsday Clock is a metaphorical tool, some more info-percutant values could be used to alert and wake up the minds. I am speaking about negative values like midnight and thirty seconds or midnight and two minutes, for it could be useful to address the urgency of the climatic crisis as chains effects are starting to unroll by tenfold. It would be an urge for action as we are facing an incoming doom while only the sum of our choices can really save us.Â
